Why Hard
Economy and living space on Lake Constance
Hard is a market town in the Bregenz district, in the far north of Vorarlberg on Lake Constance, with its own harbour and lake access. It sees itself as a lively business location: according to the Hard business community, around 600 small, medium and large enterprises are based here, from trades and retail to the plastics industry, in a prospering Lake Constance region.

An engaged local network
The Hard business community (WIGE) has, by its own account, represented the interests of around 160 member businesses since 1984, brokering contacts, maintaining networks and strengthening the location together with the municipality. It co-initiated the Spannrahmen events centre, the former Wolff knitting mill where ahead x city Hard took place, an environment where AI skills are concretely needed.

Real interest in AI
ahead x city Hard showed how strong the interest in understandable AI is in the region: 368 guests came to the Spannrahmen hall on 12 March 2026, supported among others by Digital Campus Vorarlberg. Professionally, Hard is connected through Vorarlberg's Rhine Valley, where FH Vorarlberg and the Digital Factory Vorarlberg in Dornbirn research data science and artificial intelligence.
