Why Feldkirch

Economy & location: the chambers' city

Feldkirch is the seat of the district authority and, according to the State of Vorarlberg, the region's second-largest city after Dornbirn (around 36,700 residents per statistics, as of 2025). It carries weight beyond the city limits: both the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labour and the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce are headquartered here. The city has also set up its own business service bundling company settlement, funding and vacancy management.

Education & digital: AI expertise from Vorarlberg

The AI and digital link comes from the region: FH Vorarlberg in Dornbirn is among Austria's most research-active universities of applied sciences, with, per FHV, over 100 researchers across seven research centres and groups, including Business Informatics and Digital Business Transformation. Research volume in 2024 was around 6.7 million euros according to the university. Its Bachelor 'Computer Science – Digital Innovation' explicitly teaches Artificial Intelligence – a digital seedbed in the same state as Feldkirch.

Culture & venue: medieval old town meets the AK hall

In 1218 Feldkirch was first documented as a city, founded by Hugo I of Montfort, who from around 1230 had the Schattenburg built – today one of the best-preserved medieval castle complexes. The old town is still defined by the Marktgasse with its arcades and towers such as the eight-storey Katzenturm. In this setting, ahead x city took place in the hall of the Chamber of Labour Feldkirch (Widnau 4) – with 176 guests, where the AK also runs its 'Wissen fürs Leben' series.
