Why Klagenfurt
An ICT-focused location on Lake Wörthersee
Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, the capital of Carinthia, hosts the Lakeside Science & Technology Park, described by the city's economic agency as 'Carinthia's largest technology park'. Founded in 2002, the park sits directly next to the university and concentrates information and communication technology: according to investinklagenfurt.at, around 80 companies with roughly 1,800 employees work there. The site also features one of Europe's largest drone halls at 1,000 m³ with 37 cameras.
AI research at the university – locally and regionally connected
The University of Klagenfurt anchors artificial intelligence in both curriculum and research: it runs the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (AICS) and the Digital Age Research Center (D!ARC), and since the 2022/23 winter semester has offered the English-language Bachelor 'Robotics and Artificial Intelligence'. Regionally, Carinthia is linked with Styria through the Silicon Alps cluster, founded in 2016 – Austria's first cross-regional alliance in the key microelectronics sector.
ahead x city at the Kleine Zeitung media house
ahead x city takes place in Klagenfurt at the Kleine Zeitung, by its own account the highest-circulation daily newspaper in southern Austria, distributed across Carinthia and Styria. Around 100 guests gather at the media house to discuss the practical use of artificial intelligence – in a place that brings together media professionals, business, and the city's university AI community.
